The Single Ones

As a single person I will be the first to admit that there are times where my singleness has left me feeling lonely. This past year I have attended 2 weddings,& been invited to 6. I have seen 8 friends become engaged,  broken off old relationships to start new ones and seen long relationships continue to grow; it has been a really joyous season. However, as a human, this has left me and I'm sure millions of others left with the question, "When will my time come?" If we continue to ask ourselves this question, we are robbing ourselves of the joy that Christ has given us.

First, and most importantly, we have to remember that we are made in God's image. Along with that came the capacity to love; God is love. A part of that capacity, comes the craving for that one person, to serve, live, and love for the rest of our lives. God made us, and He put these drives in us for a reason. He programmed us for His glory. A lot of us feel incomplete because we are single. The keyword there, is Feel.

This is something that couples and spouses alike struggle with, and they are not even single. There is a difference between knowing that a relationship with Jesus is all you need and actually living like it. You may as well raise your hands as you are reading this to agree with that statement. We know these things, we preach these things, but when it comes to practicing them, there is some gaping hole in our heart that denies the truth that God is enough.

Before we can become content with any relationship-- the brokenness, the trials, the cloudy days that go along with it-- we must first be content with being alone. The lie that the devil tells us is that we are alone. For every single guy and girl alike, that is the most overused lie that he can use to tempt us. With every lie, there is a truth that can offset it. One truth can offset every lie that the devil is preaching to us every day. The Word of God is truth, so there has to be an answer to that lie in there, everywhere. If you don't believe me, go and read Genesis 1 , and just think about it.

In the beginning we were with God. That was all we were about, He was all we ever wanted. We all know whats next; sin came into the picture and separation appeared, leaving a void in our heart along with a desire to fill a God-sized hole. This happened because Adam and Eve decided to find satisfaction on their own terms, leaving countless generations to and beyond this day to feel the effects of sin. However, if you know anything about redemption, (God's great plan to bring us back to Him) then you know about Jesus Christ. Through knowing Him, we know God, and have a relationship with Him.

From Adam and Eve's example, we can see what desiring things other than God can do to us. It can make us betray Him, go against His word, and hinder our relationship. If you're a single person, you may think, "That sucks, but at least they had each other."

We do the same thing with celebrities, addicts, and people who are not even close to living for God. "At least they have someone to turn to in hard times." But we see that a partner cannot save their spouse, girlfriend, or boyfriend. Jesus saves.

For a God-sized hole in a God-less generation, only God can fill and fix it. It's so hard for us, single peeps, to remember that. It is even harder because of the fact that we cannot physically see God. We cannot touch Him, hold Him, rest in Him, physically. Therefore we attempt to find that touch, hold, and rest in another person; at the end of the day realizing that they cannot even make you complete.

This is the answer to your Valentines Day. This is the answer to you "Forever alone February." This is the answer to your loneliness. God. God. God. We were once orphans, now brought back to our Father by the blood of His Son. For you that are feeling lonely, remember where you began: With God. And for you who's feeling like He isn't there: We live by faith, not by sight. So instead of spending this Valentines Day down and out about something that doesn't really matter, let us rejoice because we have everything we ever need in Him.
